“Entropy” and “Order” could be the words to sumarize Magali Reus’ solo exhibition at unosolo project room in Milan.
Magali Reus investigates the possible humanization of the object by providing industrial materials, often sterile, with a coefficient of unpredictability, introducing an alienating element which reveals its precariousness. Objects keep trace of a functionality that justifies their existence and the new aesthetic value given by the relationship with the space in which they are now presented.
The sculptural works presented in the show are using mass consumptional objects (chains, drink cans) in compositions which at a first glance seem to refer to Minimalism but which at the same time do not deny a craftsmanlike ethos.
In the case of the “Absolute Zero” and “A Line-Up” series, the loss of gravity or balance creates a strange sensation of contained disorder. In the “Noise” series, the artist introduces graphic rumor and disturbances in a very formal and framed composition.
All of these elements become part of Magali Reus’ strategy to avoid specific narrative about her works.
